Our Story

Our FIRST business, BEN OWEN POTTERY, INC., took root as the OWEN FAMILY made its way from England, to central NC, in the mid-to-late 1700s.  They came as potters, and settled in the Seagrove, NC area due to the abundance of pliable clay and fertile farmland.  Today, the family business exists as BEN OWEN POTTERY, at 105 Ben's Place in Seagrove, NC, where current talent, BEN OWEN III and his children sell their wares, among other talented potters.  Our SECOND business, ETCHED EARTH DESIGNS, LLC, evolved out of new technology applied to ancient tradition.  American craftsmanship meets cutting-edge technology when we design and custom laser etch clay, wood, and glass, satisfying a wide range of customers.  While Ben Owen III concentrates on the pottery business; his wife, LoriAnn, runs the etching business.  Both businesses share the same plot of land that has served generations of the Owen family.  All the pottery etched is glazed and fired next door at Ben Owen Pottery.

 USA made through-and-through, our pottery is designed by BEN OWEN III, NORTH CAROLINA potter.  Our pottery is formed by a team of craftspeople at PETRO MOLD CO. in PENNSYLVANIA.  The thin wood we etch comes from COLORADO HEIRLOOM in COLORADO.  The thicker plaque wood is prepared in a retiree’s garage in NORTH CAROLINA.  All the layout, design, etching, and finishing work is done by LORIANN OWEN and her team in NORTH CAROLINA.  Our top-of-the-line etching table was made by KERN LASER in MINNESOTA.  We are AMERICANS and are honored to present the products of our AMERICAN workmanship to you.
